National Oil Company
Problem
The client, a large national oil company, was
given a list of calculation 'tags' believed to be obsolete and marked
for deletion. These tags were used in several hundred Excel spreadsheets.
Each Excel user was responsible for reviewing his or her Excel spreadsheets
to verify they were no longer referencing 'tags' marked for deletion.
They contacted Kemper Technology Consulting for a solution.

Solution
Kemper developed a Macro Program in Microsoft
Excel to automate the process of searching for these tags. The
client user would simply refer to the directory where his or her
Excel spreadsheets were located. Then the macro would open each
spreadsheet in the users folder, link to the spreadsheet containing
the list of 'tags' marked for deletion, and search each cell for
a matching tag. If a match was found, a comment was added next
to the tag marked for deletion along with the login name of the
client user still using the tag. This allowed the client to more
quickly delete the obsolete 'tags' from their corporate spreadsheets.
Benefit
The software-based solution of automating the
process of searching for these macro 'tags', allowed the client to save
several hundred man-hours and tens of thousands of dollars in costs.
